The ISS series, a new family of high performance sensorless, brushless DC servo controllers, is designed for sensorless closed-loop velocity control of a three phase brushless DC motor. Using the latest advancements in DSP processing capability this intelligent controller requires no feedback devices in the motor. Only a single power cord connection is required between motor and controller. Using an especially developed proprietary sensorless flux vector algorithm the controller can regulate motor speed to within +/- 0.1% (i.e. +/-5 RPM out of 5000 RPM) with varying loads.

This new sensorless control capability developed exclusively for permanent magnet brushless DC motors has several advantages over alternate AC variable frequency or AC flux vector solutions. Not only does the permanent magnet brushless DC motor allow much higher power to weight/size ratios than equivalent AC technology but it's ability to support large air gaps makes it ideal for use in magnetic coupling applications across sealed chemical and pressure boundaries.

The ISS Intelligent Sensorless Servo is available initially in three power ratings; 7/10 amp, 14/20 amp, and 21/30 amp continuous / peak. Totally self contained, a single Universal AC input, single or three phase, from 36 to 264 VAC, 50/60 Hz is all that's required to power up. Communications are accomplished through an onboard RS232/485 serial port and a simple to use Windows®-based configuration software utility comes included. An EMC compliant version is available at additional cost.
